Default Odometer question

Hey guys I have a 95 convertible with a 3.4. The car has 147k on it and thats what the odometer reads. Earlier this year I blew a head gasket. I just recently had a replacement motor installed, the new motor has 62k on it. I was wondering if there is any way I can change the odometer to read the actual mileage of the motor. Could I just search for a used speedo with close to the mileage and install it? I have heard from some people that even if I install a speedo with lower mileage that it will revert to the mileage of the car when it is installed, I was told this was due to the computer logging the mileage of the car. Is this true? The odometer is the dial kind not the digital kind. Appreciate any help.

The computer would not change the mechanical odometer. As for the digital one, I'm not sure. I have a question though. Why would you want to roll the odometer back to what the engine has on it? The mileage is supposed to represent what the car has logged, not just the engine. If and/or when you sell the car I would read this first. www.rolledbackodometer.com

Good read. I never thought of it that way. I was just thinking that the odometer should reflrct the mileage of the motor. I guess I'll just leave it alone and make note of the mileage
