Default 69 Odometer Rebuild

My 69 convertible has an odometer issue...turns over 11K miles every 1000 miles. Odometer appears to be original. Do I have rebuilt or just buy an odometer and put in myself? Thanks...Gary

11K for every 1K is pretty strange. I was thinking wrong spedo gears, but yours is off way beyond gears. If you want to keep your current speedometer, you may want to give these people a call, otherwise you could try a salvage yard.

Sure sounds like the gear that holds back the fifth digit is stripped. Replacing the odometer is fairly simple to do, it's just held into the speedo housing with a clip. I don't know if any aftermarket companies sell just the odometer portion, so getting a used unit off ebay might be your best bet. And what mileage your car winds up with is between you and your conscience.
