Need Tranny Help
Thinking of buying a 91 camaro rs. The previous owner said she thinks that the tranny is slipping. The way she described it that when you accelerate the car accelerates but after a short time, it high revs. Can anyone help me out here. i am new to this site and know very little about cars (very willing to learn). I want to buy the car, but need to figure out what is wrong with the car and how much it will cost me to fix it. Also I do not like that it is a 6 cylinder. Thinking of converting to a 305 or maybe even a 350. Any info would be greatly appreciated
well if i were you i would get it checked out by a local mechanic,is this an auto or manual ? it could be many things, the fluid and filter might need to be changed, the clutch could be worn out...
You most likley are gonna need another trans. A lot of people never think of the fluid in them and dont do maintenace. Ask the owner if they have any records. Look at the fluid on the dipstick. Is it brownish. If so its burnt and the clutches are most likley shot. I think a rebuild or a rebuilt with exhcange will run you around $700. That is not installed. Beware of buying off the net though. I had a customer who got a 200R4 from a guy in Florida. It was suposed to have top notch performace stuff in it. It was all stock and damaged inside. And the guy sent the wrong converter so when I ahd pulled the tranny to swap them that is when I sent it to a shop to inspect and they found the problems.
Mad mike ZZ28 is rite though . If the fluid is red thats good. But i dont no much about that model of camaro , but u might want to check to see if there are any metal shavings where the transmission fluid pan comes off. Like in the inside. If there are metal shavings its not GOOD.
