Default My camaro isn't running right need advice

I have a '99 camaro 3.8 V6 with 191,000 on it it had new plug and wires six months ago and two on the three coil packs have been replaced. The car ran great up until a week or so ago when it started misfiring really bad till it wouldn't run and I had it towed to local machanic.

He told me my coil pack that controls cylinders 1 and 4 was bad so he replaced it now the engine has random misfire codes for all cylinders and a code for my EGR being bad, specifically it being stuck open.

My question is would this cause random engine misfires and is it possible that the plugs and wires are bad being they are only six months old? What about the last coil pack that hasn't been replaced is that a possible cause? Lastly I can smell fuel like when and engine is flooded and sometimes the car will konk out right after it turns over. The mechanic said the bad EGR is why I'm smelling the gas smell and why my gas milage is in the toilet.

What do you guys here think of this? Any opinions would be great thanks for any help.

There is no way we can tell if the stuck up EGR valve is causing all your problems but I can tell you that if your EGR valve is stuck open your not going to track down any other issues until its fixed. In many cases car with stuck EGR valve will only run over 2500 RPMs. Anything less they just stall. Could it cause a random misfire,,,, I guess ,,, is it causing your random missfire? no clue.

I am not sure about the gas smell on a car with a working Cat, That should not happen but a even a slightly stuck open valve will kill your power and your mileage.

fix what you know is failing first so fix the egr and go from there. i would think a egr stuck open would cause a high idle.

A stuck open EGR should not cause a high idle because the exhaust being sucked into the intake is spent of oxygen. However, it will dilute the A/F mixture causing the engine to run rough or die at low RPM and to run poorly at WOT under heavy load. The PCM/ECM does not expect the EGR to be open at low RPM, or at WOT and is not able to compensate for it.
