Default Intake Leak 3.4

Hey Guys
I just bought a 94 Camaro with a 3.4 SFI for my 16 y/o son,and it developed a leak which I believe is the famous intake gasket leak. It has 178 K on it runs good no smoke, no milkyness in oil.

I haven't really pinpointed it since we are in NJ and its very cold out. We have only had the car 2 weeks.

Seems it could be freeze plug in front of motor, is there anything else on the left side of motor ( pass side) that could be leaking. When i do pressure test to 18 lbs it leaks pretty good

I just found the product called Seal Steel on the internet. They claim to have had great success with this type of leak as well has head gaskets

Do these type products work and has anyone had any luck with this particular one?

Generally speaking, "fix-all" products are unreliable. It may fix the problem for a little while, but if your gasket is leaking then you want to replace the gasket.

Thanks for the info, generally are the freeze plug a pain to replace? WE used to use the rubber replacement ones when we could

These highend headgasket sealers can work headgaskets but they used the heat/gases from the leaking head gasket to cure the product. It will not work well on an intake leak. Carful with the other stop leaks they tend to stop leaks and stop coolant flow and you will end up with a bigger repair.

I would avoid the rubber plugs, do they still make them? When I was a mechanic back in the 80's we used to refer to those rubber plugs as job security.

Edit: oh there is a PDF of a parts manual for 4th gen camaros it covers the 3.4. Its in a stick on the main 4th gen forum There are a lot of exploded views in there and you might see where everything is.
