an idea i have
my DD is a 3.4
i want a v8 so i was thinking i could buy a basic lt1 from a junk yard or craigs list that doesnt have any probs that i know of then start buying parts and building it up.
i have no experience but might take auto classes in the summer.
if everything goes well i could swap it in my v6 or if for some reason my car is wrecked (again) i gould just buy a non running car off craigslist.
this is going to be a 3-4 year project cuz im a freshman in college and dont wanna do much more to my car till i get another car.
my thoughts behind this is that why not try to do it myself and i know plenty of well educated people who could help me and share knowledge with.
i know the work will be a lot but i have the time and i could eventually get the tools (engine mount stand, and all that).
if there is any ideas you could pitch in i would like to know.

You're gonna need more than just the LT1. You'll also need the trans, a LSD rear end (you'll blow that open diff in about 5 minutes), wiring harness, cpu, full ignition system, full exhaust system, V8 springs and shocks, among many other things.

You will need just about every mechanical part from the V8 Camaro including the frame section that all the suspension bolts too. Its been covered 39,045 times. There is even a sticky about it. It is a huge undertaking and never worth the work unless you have a reason you want to learn about Cameros and you have an attachment to the car. If you just want to go fast or "save money" by converting you v6 to a v8 then its not worth it. Not even close.
I found this link in the sticky. Don't forget the chart at the bottom that shows what you have to change if your doner car is not same year as the car you are swaping with.

I've also came across that thread. But what I'm getting at is not that I have to swap it out with my v6 I could always get a v8 that doesn't have an engine or whatever it may be
This is more about building the motor than the car

If you look at a 3rd Gen you would have a lot less limits to your engine options. LT1's with blown headgaskets are going for 1,000 to 1,500 around me. That would be a good project also. One I have been thinking about.
yeah that sounds good also.
now my question is (from what i noticed) that 3rd gens are caborated?
what could i do along the lines of fuel injection and what v8 size motors will fit?
