Default in a hurry, what catalytic converter?

Hi,

im back, i need to replace the catalytic conv.** I was looking at a universal fit converter at pepboys for 170$, and a direct fit one for around 430$, what is the difference, the universal one seem to need a welding job. Is it the same with the direct fit one??? if i can replace it myself I can save the labor cost, and direct fit one might be cheeper. Do you guys any other ideas??

**code P0420, and the emissions test failed very badly. Also there's a gas smell too. so i assume its the catco.

help.
thx

if u can afford it do the 02 sensors while your at it. the direct fit should bolt right on unless someone that had the car before u has welded one on already. as far as pricing look around. have not bought one in a long time but over 400 sounds like alot.

wow,,, well better clean them instead and it may not be a big thing but does help, sure u can do them in spare time but if they are part of the problem. i think they make a 02 sensor cleaner. i gave mine a light wire brushing to clean em.

Default replacing the sensors..!

yeah, the sensors cost ~50$ each for two and ~80$ for the other one. Is it hard to replace them? i mean other than having to get under the car?

on mine that hard one was on the starter side. had to take the starter lose to get it out of the way. other than that its, unplug the wire, unscrew the sensor and clean/replace. i only haver two on mine though so the back ones i dont know about. dont have back ones on a 93.

I was going to recommend the Magnaflow High-Flow cat, until I saw their price, and your budget.
