Default High idle, need some help

Here are the symptoms:
95 3.4L camaro - 4 speed auto
High idle in park - around or above 2000 rpm
Tough to get to shift, shift points are higher than normal, shifting is otherwise solid and firm, no slipping.
Car wants to stall if floored driving down the road, if slight pedal then is fine.
Help!

Is the check engine lamp lit? If it is, it would be a good idea to get the computer scanned and see what it is complaining about.
Otherwise make sure the throttle valve is closing fully, the IAC valve is working properly, check for vacuum/air leaks between the throttle valve and intake manifold, sticking throttle and cruise control cables and linkage, make sure the EGR is closed when theengine is idling.

thanks pete, I ended up changing the IAC and that helped but I still get an intermittent idle around 1500. so something else is to blame.

Take a good look at the throttle and cruise control cables, and throttle valve making sure they are not binding. Look for vacuum/air leaks in the intake system and downstream from the throttle valve (cracked or loose vacuum hoses including the fat one going to the brake booster.
