Default High idle

My car tends to stall out when i first start it up for a few seconds i have to rev it a bit to get it going, after the car is warmed up though the car idles at about 2000 rpms, it drives fine, but I cant find why it would be reving when the car is in neutral or i have the clutch depressed, any suggestions?

IAC valve would be a good place to look.

Other opinions, fellas?

Does it run fine otherwise? IAC or vacuum leak. All that comes to mind right now.

yeah it runs fine once its going, the car starts to overheat if i get stuck at a light for a long time, or leave it idoling for a while, so im replacing the thermostat tonight to hopefully rid myself of the engine temp rising.... i am gonna double check for any leaks, i didnt notice any while i was taking apart the intake/manifold a few days ago, the engine on it is actually like brand new, i just bought a car last week, trying to fix it up now!

Take your air horn off and look into the throat of the throttle body (with the venturi closed). See the holes/slots in the body? Hold your fingers over the openings while the engine is running. If the idle slows down to be somewhat normal, then your IAC valve is bad.

awsome, im gonna try that tonight, thank you...
i bought the car with the understanding that it had this idle issue, and after me and my brother were trying to rework all the wireing and working on the engine, we kind of hit a brick wall on ideas to what it might be!
