Default Help with 3.4l rear main bearing cap!!!!!!!

Okay everyone, rebuilding my sons 95 camaro 3.4l eng. Getting ready to install the rear main bearing and a paper in the gasket set said to install a o ring into the recessed oil hole for pressure..I do not have a recessed hole and dont remember any o ring when taken apart, then it said to put sealant on cap then install, but i saw none when i removed it....

Any help with this issue??? I know the gasket set is for more then one Engine, But all it said was do this on V6...

Thanks, Garth

There a parts manual on the main 4th gen forum for download. You download it and see it that part is listed for your year.

Get a service manual for the car, at least Haynes or Chilton, GM is even better...

The parts pdf does show that a seal and sealant are used on the main bearing rear cap. It looks like the seal goes around a pin that locates the cap to the block. Sound familiar? The machine shop disassembled and assembled my 3.4 block so I never got that deep into it and took no pics.

the oil pump mounts on the rear main so im thinking it needs a good seal at the pump pressure connection.

Thanks, everyone..I spoke with chevy and was informed that not all engines had the oring, it was something they tried but didnt make much of a difference, so instead of spending the time and money doing it they stopped... They said some will and most wont have it.....

My 94 is an early example, about #18,750. I wonder if it has it? Probably not if the part was used on the very first 3.4s. Then it would be early 93s that had it. It's weird that the parts pdf doesn't have a note about some engines not having the seal.
