Nice info Massey. I learned something. I always thought that was just a syncro issue.
Next time I will try replacing the clutch.

I have a strange one for you.
Don't really care why Im selling the truck, but Chevy said it was normal.
I bought a New Chevy Colorado in 2007 with 340 miles on it. It now has 50K
and reverse has ground since they day I got the truck.

GM told me the noise in the front end of my Avalanche was normal. a lound and noticable sound only when in 4WD and louder even in 4 lo. Well it got to the point where you could feel something grinding in there before they pulled my diff appart. I got a totally new diff on warranty, a bearing chewed itself up and killed the gears. If they had looked at it when it was making the noise then I would have only had to get new bearings. Sometimes GM, Ford and worse of all Dodge will think that we are just trying to get stuff done on our vehicles for nothing.

I had a Dakota that would not drop off Cruise when I hit the brakes. 6 trips to the dealer before I threatened to go to the General Manager for Virginia before they decided to listen to me. Oh and I told them what needed replacing (I diagnosed it already) and once they did the cruise worked fine.

If you dont have a warranty left take it to a tranny specialist, if you do have a warranty, call the company and see if the local tranny specialist will accept the work for warranty.

Sounds like a dragging clutch to me. I have driven the colorado and the one I drove manual did not grind into reverse. It is not normal.

Truck is a piece of crap. Out of Warranty. It was always in the shop.
I love Chevy but the last two New Chevy's I bought have been nothing but trouble. I am selling the Colorado. I already bought an old Ford F150.

I have out grown the new car phase. I am sticking with old paid for stuff. Ford has 200K Miles and runs great. Paid 2k for it, paid close to 30k for the Colorado and the Ford has needed less work.

Thanks for the info. I new it shouldn't do that. The dealer wouldn't listen to me.

to the op,
if you feel likes its bothering you that bad what you could do is before you start your car, put it in reverse. hold in the clutch and start it. mine grinds too, and thats how i start my car when i have to go in reverse. all other times i need it i just force it in.

Well what I do is when I start the car I put the shifter in 4th then in reverse and it doesn't grind if I do it that way. I don't mind that. I was just curious if it was an issue that I needed to address soon.
