Default Dash Break Light Always On

So ever since i bought my 1994 V6 Camaro in October the break light on the dash has been on. Its a 5 speed so i obviously use the parking break a lot and its on whether its up or down. And yes i have tried every way to make sure that its completely disengaged. One of my friends is a mechanic and he says that one of the sensors are probably just be bad but i have another friend who says that he had the same thing on his ford pickup and it turns out that his was in fact always on and that it was one of the reasons he always got worse gas mileage was because the break was always trying to stop the wheels. how to find out what the problem is?

Another thing is that sometimes it wont come on untill i press in the breaks kind of hard like at a stop light then i see it come on but thats rare. I know that my break fluid is good because i had it inspected and told them about the light so i'm at a loss here.

The red brake light, meand that either the hand brake in not fully relased, or you have a brake system problem, such as low brake fluid, bad amster cylinder, leaky brake line.

Could it be the switch that is at the base of the handbrake? I never looked into the Camaro, but I had an 86 Dodge Omni (don't laugh, it was my first car, I got it for a quarter). We had to remove the parking brake, and while removing the cable, I had to pull the switch out, and rewire it so the light wouldn't stay on. Just a thought.

But I would still have your braking system checked again. That is the last thing you want is to have a leak, or your pads be stuck. That could not only hurt mileage, but could tear up your brake system REAL fast... $$$$$

there are a couple of sensors in the brake system that will set the light off. if its coming on when braking with the foot brake i would say odds r u have issues with the brake system. could be the sensor but i would suspect the master cylinder is failing or one or more of the brake cylinder/s is failing or there is a leak in the lines. we just had one of the guys lose his brakes completely and had to stop using the ebrake. the master cylinder failed and he was not losing fluid. u can take the cover off the cener console and unplug the switch and see if that makes the light go out. if it does either the switch is bad or is out of adjustment.
