Cooling fan stays on.
Just today i noticed that i could hear my cooling fan on while i was driving. But, the car was already cooled because it was sitting in the cold today while i was at class. Anyway I brought it home and waited for the temp to drop completely in the engineand then turned the car on. And just like that, I heard a what sounded like a switched was flicked, and the fan came on. I turned the car off, and back on 3 more times and everytime I heard the same sound, and the fan came right back on. What could this be? Anyone has any suggestions as to what and why tis is happening?
Check the ECT sensor by disconnecting the electrical plug. If the fans still stay on, then the ECT is probably OK. Now check the fan relay. Sometimes as the fans get old and the bearings get sticky, the fan motor has to draw more current. This can cause the contacts in the fan relay to weld and stay closed all the time.
Had this problem on mine and it nearly drove me mad! If you don't have an ses light it's probably the same thing mine was. First have someone turn your a/c on while you're looking at the compressor and see if the clutches engage. If they don't, there is a a/c high pressure sensor on the small (high pressure) line right where the top of the passenger wheel well is. Mine was bad and caused this prob. Cost me 147.00 for the shop to diagnos and replace but no one else should spend that. The sensor costs about 40 bucks and you'll have to purge your a/c system, replace the sensor, and recharge the system. Hope this saves someone some headaches.
