Default Choke Light stays on

Hi All,

I've got a 86 IROC Z28 carb V8. The choke like stays on so I suspect I have a stuck choke. Is this something that can be fixed or should the choke just be replaced. Anyone has a manual or scan of how to replace if needed? Appreciate the help in advance! Looking forward to running her all summer.

have you checked to make sure that you have power to the choke? that would be the first place to check. thinking all basic manuals you get at auto zone have the 'how to' section for it. not a lot of posts in this sections, may want to put it under 3rd generation in the regular post section. sorry, not a lot of help.

It could be an alternator problem. The choke gets its power from the alternator while its running. That way if the key is on and the engine is not running the choke won't heat and open. Also there is a relay on the convienece center. That should be under the dash above your right foot. You just about have to have your head under the dash looking straight up to see it. The key buzzer is there also so if it is working follow the sound.

most interesting ref the alternator. didn't know that. my choke is messing up some as well. i know my alternator is bad as the lights like to flicker. perhaps....me changing my alternator will fix my choke. always good to read other posts. never know what you'll find. thanks again mike.
