Do you want to take to a shop and drop it off or are you willing to pull the tranny? For places like Amaco just give them a call they will give you a quote. If your tranny is working now they can quote you a full master kit rebuild. It will most likely cost 1600-1800 bucks. If they open it up and find damage to the gears it can jump up to $2200-$2500 very quickly. Of course where you live is a big factor. I am sure in Long Island your prices will be higher. Another thing, go to a car show and ask around for the best tranny shop. Most car guys either know where to go or where NOT to go.

If its just dark and no other problem just give it a service. Then do another service in 10K miles. Dark fluid by itself is not a reason for rebuild.

If you can find a good rebuilder that does it on the side and you pull and install the trans I could see you getting it don for 700-800.

Ok the reason I am thinking of a rebuild is after driving awhile and the tranny heats up first gear tends to shift hard but after I shut it off it shirts normally

May just need a fluid and filter change. I would do that first since it doesn't cost anywhere near what a rebuild will.
