coolant temperature sensor

alright so like i said in the earlier post i broke this sensor but the car was misfiring before i broke it but the sensor could of been defective cause all i did was touch it and it broke. i cant see how hot the car is
wat does this sensor actualy do?
and wats the other one next to it kind of under the intake elbow?

The are two water temp sensors. One drives the temp gage, and the other sends temp information to the PCM. The PCM uses the temp info to adjust fuel mixture and ignition timing.

well both of them are broke
so that can be cause my misfire?
and wat is it called again cause ima go to advance later on

when i went to autozone.com and searched that i didnt see it
is it the coolant temperature sensor? and which one does wat? do i need 2?

ECT (engine coolant temp) sensor is connected to the computer. It may or may not cause misfire, depending how bad it is. The one for the gage (engine coolant temp gage) sensor/sending unitdoes not affect performance. The sensor used by the computer is located near the back of the coil pack and uses 2 wires, YEL & BLK/PNK. The one for the gage uses one TAN wire.
Is the check engine lite ON? If it is get the car scanned & it may lead to your problem.

yea the check engine lite stays on non stop
and if ur talkin bout right next to the thermastat..... behind the coil pack.......... under the intake manifold then that whole sensor is broke.
