RE: coolant temperature sensor
The are two water temp sensors. One drives the temp gage, and the other sends temp information to the PCM. The PCM uses the temp info to adjust fuel mixture and ignition timing.

RE: coolant temperature sensor
ECT (engine coolant temp) sensor is connected to the computer. It may or may not cause misfire, depending how bad it is. The one for the gage (engine coolant temp gage) sensor/sending unitdoes not affect performance. The sensor used by the computer is located near the back of the coil pack and uses 2 wires, YEL & BLK/PNK. The one for the gage uses one TAN wire.
Is the check engine lite ON? If it is get the car scanned & it may lead to your problem.

yea the check engine lite stays on non stop
and if ur talkin bout right next to the thermastat..... behind the coil pack.......... under the intake manifold then that whole sensor is broke.
