You need the system recharged. Since you are just replacing a line you will not need any oil. Any AC guy will know what all that includes.
The down side to you changing your own line is that if it leaks out after they recharge it your back to the same situation. You realize that the recharge is the expensive part of this repair. If you need to take it some place for a recharge you might as well let them put the pipe in and leak test it for you. Atlease that way if it leaks out a week later they will cut you a break on the new repair.
They are most likely going to try to sell you a Dryer receiver. Again if you are paying someone to charge the system up you my want to get the dryer. I tell guys a lot to recharge it without replacing the dryer but thats when they have nothing to lose cause they are doing it themselfs. If they get moisture in their system then they will need to just get the dryer and do it over again. But if you are paying someone $300 to charge your system it might be best to go ahead and get the dryer. If you do the dryer now you will need oil

Telling a AC tech he needs to evacuate the system before he puts the new freon in is kind of like telling a mechanic he needs to take the old oil out before he puts the new oil in during an oil change.

Just tell them what happened, and they will know what to do. If your compressor tanked on you then you may want to consider getting a system flush too. Metal shavings in the lines will clog up the oriface tube really quick and then your AC will be useless again. Make sure to have the Reciever/Dryer replaced along with the Oriface tube. Or have the shop do that for you for a few extra $$$.

I have a problem with my 1994 Mustang 6 cyl. The air comes out of the bottom vents at the floorboard but not the upper vents. The air is not cold either. The guy who sold it to me said something about an air pump but I think that is for the smog control system not the air conditioner system.
Can someone help me .... why is the air only coming out of the bottom vents. I think recharging it may solve the lack of cold issue.
