Default voltage at air conditioner compressor

What voltage should I be seeing on the wires going to the air conditioner compressor? I am thinking 5 but not sure. I am reading 1 volt with the ohm meter with air conditioner switch on MAX and the low pressure switch wires shorted together. I am trying to figure out if the compressor works or if there is something else that is not getting voltage to it. The clutch moves freely on it by hand. The a/c had no charge on it when we bought the car. Fuses show good, relay clicks but I have not had a chance to ohm it out.

should be able to switch the relay with any of the others except the abs one. they are all the same but the abs. switch with one u know is working. if failing the problem should follow the relay. u should be getting a code.

I would expect 12 volts, but am not sure...I can check the wiring manual when I get home.

The PCM operats the AC compressor relay. The relay then puts out 12 Volt to the AC compressor over the green wire, the black wire goes to ground. The pressure sensor is wired directly to the PCM it receives 5 Volt from the PCM and ruturns 0 to 5 Volt to the PCM, depending on pressuer. You can connect 12 Volt, through a 30 AMP in line fuse, directly from the battery to the compressor. If the clutch is good id should lock up when you give it battery.

Ok, thanks. I will try to check it with a 12 volt source to see if it engages. As usual, work is getting in the way of camaro-ing!
