Default 99 Camaro, Exhaust/Cat problem

For the past couple months, I've been getting a rattling noise coming from what I think is the muffler under slight rpm loads, but not idle. It seemed worse in reverse. I was pulling out of the store today and heard a loud noise from under the car, not really sure where. Ever since, the car has a very deep, loud tone and rumble to it, extremely similar to a V8. It seems to be getting louder the more I drive it, but not anything unbearable. Could this have been something breaking in the muffler or cat? If so, is there anything I need to do to fix it? Honestly I enjoy the new sound, but just want to make sure nothing major is wrong.

have you checked to see if the muffler has blown a hole in it? haha mine did the same thing. I just replaced it.

Thats what it sounds like to me too. I had a few friends that commented on how well the car sounded. I noticed the hole while I was watching the DMV worker inspect my car. Glad he still passed it.

ya got lucky... when mine muffler went, it totally fell apart. the pipe coming in from the engine completely came apart from it. when I pulled the muffler down it just fell apart in my hands. it was completely rusted thru everywhere. I guess thats what happens when the previous owner stopped driving it regularly (4000 miles in 4 years is great for me... but hard on the car!)
