oh and once its at 3000 rpm its roars and wont shift so we have to take our foot off the gas then let it shift and slowly go up in speed. otherwise once it shifts, if we try to just floor it it goes back into first gear.

hay teresa welcome to the forum. i moved your thread to the 4th gen v6 section for you. should get some help here. it does sound like you have an issue with a sensor like the throttle sensor. not sure what reverse sensor or where.

I am not a 4l60e (your transmission) expert but I would be real curious as to why the computer would need to know if the transmission was in reverse other then by the shifter. I don't think reverse even has a a solenoid. It is just a valve that is opened by the shifter. All the normal stuff the effects shifting would not matter in reverse. Reverse is just on or off.

A quick google search of "4l60 reverse sensor" found nothing. To me that indicates it does not exist.

In the 4l60 reverse failing is is pretty common. It is either a seal blown or a weak hydraulic pump. A quick check of the line pressure would tell you.

Edit, After I reread your post I think you may be talking about solenoids not sensors. Solenoids are needed so the computer can shift between gears. I do not think there is a reverse solenoid because reverse is on or off. There is no need for computer to control it. Hopefully someone that has rebuild the 4l60e will show up.

4L60e does not have a reverse sensor or reverse solenoid. Reverse is obtained when the 1-2 and 2-3 solenoids are ON, and reverse input clutch applied, and the low/reverse clutch applied. Make sure the selctor lever is properly connected and adjusted. Check for transmission codes with a scsnner. Other problems as Gorn mentioned, input housing assembly including turbine shaft seals, shift linkage, oil pump, valve body, reverse clutch, low/reverse clutch.
