Default Trans swap

If I'm not mistaken the 94 z/28 has the 4l60 trans right? I'm just wondering if it would be better to swap to the 350 turbo or 400 turbo. Looking for something good For track use but still decent to cruise on the weekends. Also what kinda costs and how much work would it be to switch?

Keep the stock tranny. Get a 2800-3200 stall and a shift kit. You'll be plenty happy with that.

Stall converter could cost up to $1000 for an expensive one. Can be had on ls1tech in classifieds for maybe $500? I've heard from many auto drivers that vigilanty is a good brand for a stall. Not sure if I spelled it right tho. I wouldn't cheap out on a stall. Get a quality brand. As for the shift kit, they can be had for under $100 if I recall.

Well when I bought the car I was told it already had a shift kit and stall in it , just not sure how big of a stall. I'm just having a little trouble out of the tranny so I've been considering a swap

Hard to say. I'd pull the trans and look at the converter. You'll be able to tell if it's factory or not. And for the shift kit, with an aftermarket shift kit, you'll roast 2nd out from under the back of the car with ease. Not so much with a factory tranny. Maybe chirp 2nd at best

Well here's my problem maybe you can help me narrow it down, if I'm going down the road and punch it the car should go into "passing gear" right? My problem is if I punch it the RPM's jump up like its in neutral.

Which it should do. If it kicks down in third, you're rpms would go up. You're going from .68:1 ratio in fourth, to a 1:1 ratio in third.

But it should still be making forward power right? Mine acts as if it is in neutral no power and redline rpm .

If the trans isn't downshifting and making the car go zooooom, then you're describing a slipping transmission, which means the clutch packs are toast.
Could be previous owner put in a shift kit in the hopes of it fixing the problem.

Sounds like a toasted trans to me, ive broken 4 so far.. If you dont plan on making big horsepower then just stick with the 4l60e.
