Default Swaping Gears

Im interested in changing to 373's but ive never even had a differental cover off before. Whats involved in swaping them?

its a lot more difficult than you may think you need to space the gears and make sure they mesh right you also have to torque the crush washer for the pinion and make sure the pinion is at the right tension youd be better off finding a rear with the 373s or paying someone to install the new gears

^^^ agree if you get any of the settings just a little off you will get noise or worse ruin the unit. also the crush bushing can only be used once so if you get it wrong you gotta buy another.

This is the one project I see the most screwed up by do it yourselfers. The process is not super complicated but it is very unforgiving and it tuff to learn from a book. The results of a mistake are almost always a complete rebuild of the rear. The best way to do your first one is to have a guy who knows how to do it right (and has done dozens of rears) looking over your shoulder explaining what is really important in each step.

Okay thanks ill just go ahead and put some fresh oil in there and put what money i have into my savings jar for a whole new rear

you should be able to pick up a good rear end for around 150-250 from a junkyard

Mine is fine when i say a whole new rear im talking a 12 bolt or something of that strength
