Default LS motor to T-56 scattershield question

I have a new to me 2000 Camaro SS with a 2004 LQ4 408 nitrous motor with a stock T-56 transmission. NHRA requires a flywheel shield, the only manufacturer I can find is Quick Performance/Lakewood, but confused about which shield I need. The offerings all reference LS (equivalent to LQ but aluminum I understand) motors to LS T-56 transmissions, none show the LT T-56, one of which is a "low profile" shield. Are they the same trans? They're description is confusing to me.

I pay horrible shipping to Alaska and hate to order the wrong part, I'm paying $768.00 to ship up a 9" differential.

Thanks in advance. LarryM

have you called quick performance to see what they had to say. I would think if the trans is stock 2000 Camaro then you would want the one that's for the 2000 with t56. if its stock to the car the engine came from then you would want to look to see what if any is available for it. the clutch setup changed at some point with the t56, just not sure when.

I believe there is some difference in the LT cars trans 1993-1997 from the LS cars 1998-2002 but not sure what it is.
If your car is a 2000 and the trans is stock to the car the LS part is what you need.

Craby, the motor in my '02 Camaro is an LQ4 block, 408 with the OEM '02 LS T-56. I haven't called QP, will call them tomorrow.

My dilemma is they list two scattershields for my car, one being a "Low Profile", not sure what that fits. Looking at my car a low profile would be a help installing with limited space, headers, etc. Just thought I could get a heads up here in the mean time.

Thanks for the reply

Thanks Y2K, I replied to Craby here just now. I found mine is the LS trans, I'm just wondering which of the two scattershields I need, one is listed as "low profile".

I'll call QP tomorrow, just antsy for information. Thanks

I can not answer your question for sure but I have an LT1 T56 and a LS T56 and the Lt1 units seems to have a significantly larger bell housing Even the input shaft of the LT1 version looks longer. Once the bell housing and input shafts are removed the two units look a lot more a like,.

Thanks Gorn, being a 2000 I'm assuming mine is an LS T-56, I've read there is a difference in the two. I'm ordering the scattershield and with over $100 shipping for a 20 lb item I want to get it right the first time.

I think you are fine the LQ9 is cast iron copy of the LS1 (Its nothing like an LT1). Converting a LT1 T56 to work with a a LQ9 is possible but by the time you are done it is a LS T56. You basically need to remove the front of the Lt1 trans and install the front off a LS1 trans. So even if it was a converted trans you would need the scatter shield for the LS1
