Clutch Engagement
I have an original clutch, 44K miles, and it works great,
Good: disengagement, engagement, no noise, no shimmy, grip, everything you could ask from an OEM clutch to do.
Bad: fully engaged about 1-2 inches off the floorboard.
Is this normal?
Where to look?
Thanks.

Check your slave cylinder, clutch master cylinder, and lines for leaking fluid and air trapped in the system. Could also be a faulty slave cylinder or clutch master cylinder, may not show signs of leaking but have a bad internal seal.
Thaks, Green. I have checked for signs of leakage outside and everything is dry as a popcorn fa--, er, dry as clean dishes from the dishwasher.
I drove it today, first time since I bought it, and if I shove the seat forward enough, it worked great, upshift and downshift and from neutral at a stop light.
This Camaro is a rocket...then I remembered how much of a gearhead I am, I didn't even turn on the radio...just rolled down the window.

Haha yeah those ls1's are pretty quick. It's possible that the slave cylinder may not be functioning properly.
I believe these have an internal slave cylinder, meaning to get to it you have to remove the transmission. if thats the case i would see if the problem gets worse or if it leads to gear clash/ clutch drag before taking it to a shop. This can get pretty expensive. If your gonna do it yourself it would be cheaper obviously but it is a pain without a lift.

Yes, it has a hydraulic throw out bearing wrapped around the trans input shaft bearing retainer. A warm day job if this needs to happen.
Yes, I know jackstands, pulled out many TH350 from my previous '68 on Saturday night to replace second gear outer sprag race and be ready for Sunday racing at Suffolk for racing.
