Default Auto to 6speed?

Hey, new to the forums. Was thinking about getting a 96 Z28 Camaro. I'm wanting a 6speed, but this one is a auto. Does anyone know what needs to be done to drop a 6speed in it?

Thanks!

alot of work is needed. its almost not worth it unless ur building it for the strip almost. you'll need aton of parts like a new center console, clutch an pedal assembily. brackets for the new assembily. new brake pedal cause the manules are smaller. an a ton of other stuff.

If you have your heart set on a 6-speed, purchase a car that was a 6-speed. If you're making a car for the strip the auto is going to be better, if you're making a car to impress people (or you just really really want a 6-speed) you're better off not trying to convert the car. The T56 alone is going to cost you $1500-$2000, and that doesn't include all the other little pieces you'll need.

Going to use it mostly for everyday driving. So you think a auto will be better for the track? It feels like I have more control with a straight shift. The reason I was wanting it, I found a 6 speed transmission for $45.00

well it depends on the driver alot. if you want to drive a 6speed then do it mines a 5speed an i love it. but if the car your wanting to buy is a auto then you may want to leave it that way. cause even though its $45 its still going to take alot more money to put that manual in there. and you can still get that hard shift like its a manual with a hard shift kit they make for automatics. its not that expensive like maybe $110 or so and it only took my brother like three hours to put it in his trans am.

Ok, sounds interesting. I might get a hard shift kit for the auto.

Thanks!

its worth the money and its not hard to install it. if youve ever looked into the works of a auto then it wont be hard at all but its intimadating looking if you dont mess with them much. the bottom plate is removed and it looks like a brain with all the turns an stuff but dont be scared they come with every thing you need. new bearings, release plate, templets an instuctions so that a monkey could do it. but you might want to get some grease to hold the new bearings in. so they dont fall out an ya lose them.
