97 RS Tranny Issues
Well, all of a sudden I'm entering the highway this morning and I noticed it wasn't shifting properly. I had to back off on the gas and it would up shift. So I get to work this way, go to back into my space and no reverse.
Decided if I could get it home I'll just keep it in the garage and figure out what my next step is.
Is the tranny smoked? It has 137K on it. Any suggestions? What would any of you do?
Thanks

Shifting funny and no reverse is a sign of low line pressure. Step one is check your fluid level. This is not like checking your oil there is a procedure. Step two is pull and swap in a new filter and refill. Again it is critical you follow the process installing the filter and refill the trans fluid.
If the problem still persist your trans is most likely smokes. Also when you have the pan off the trans check the pan for metal, the black powers like mud is your clutches. If there is a lot of either she may be done.
Next time tow it home if you can. Driving a car low on line pressure is a quick way to kill it.
If you are a DIYer check out Rock auto for prices on transmission. If you find anything cheaper let us know. Local guys are going to cost a lot more.
