Default Electical Problem

Hello everyone. I'm new to this forum. Just upgraded from a '94 V6 5speed coupe with 232k miles to a '98 V6 auto convertible with 142k miles. The car is in beautiful condition.. The problem that just popped up I think might be an ignition switch problem. I loose power to the windows and the radio. then it might come back on with the next start and then go off. Everything else that would be related to the ignition keeps working. Anyone know how the power is divided up on the switch.

Thanks, Dennis

Your problem is very typical of the design. Almost every person with these cars will experience it at sometime. It is due to a solder connection inside the BCM (body control module) coming loose at a relay installed on the circuit board. The only real repair is to re-solder the broken connection. That requires removal from the car, opening it up, and repairing it. The BCM is behind the glove box in a plastic holder. Search for "BCM repair".

Default Fixed?

Pulled the box and resoldered the relay connectors. They didn't look bad, but... The windows and radio were working before I started and still worked when done. Tomorrow will be the test. Thanks again, Dennis

You're very welcome. Pass on this little tidbit to someone else. It won't be found in the factory service manual except as "replace the BCM" ;-)
