Well I re adjusted the rockers and added 3/4 turn of preload. Replaced the plug wires and gapped my plugs. Started it up and she purred like a kitten! Runs sooo smooth! I couldn't be happier. Well I mean I be happier with a ls1 but ya know. I'm happy about how my car runs. The temp stays consistent at 185. Everything checks out okay! Thanks for the help!

Good deal, glad to hear it, and you're welcome. Live and learn, to know what parts of the manual to follow and what not.
It's not necessarily a Haynes thing either, as the poor result 2-step method for small blocks has been in Motors and Chiltons books too.
You know, it doesn't hurt to ask questions here before you dive in head first.

That's the first time the manual has led me in the wrong direction. Ill be sure to ask first now!

Since I've had the heads off my car, I'm really thinking about attempting the 3400 Aluminum head swap! If I do, I'm gonna pick up a donor 3.4 and build it on a stand. That way I still have transportation while I'm building it.

If I decide not to go that route, I'm gonna try to get into a 240sx s14 ka24de. They're stupid easy to boost. Cheaper too. Lol not sure what I wanna do. The aluminum head swap is sounding very delightful tho.
