Well, no guarantees, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if that's what it is.

And fwiw, it's not hard to get a rocker set too tight when spinning the pushrod while adjusting for zero lash. I've had them to where it was real hard to tell it was at zero, the rod spun that easily. I prefer pulling and pushing the push rod up and down to check. When you start to get close with the adjustment, remove the socket, then check the lash. Tighten it up a little at a time and keep checking the same way. If you're not careful, it can be easy to get it beyond zero lash without realizing it.

We were checking the lash by moving the pushrods up and down as you mentioned. It didn't look right when we adjusted it tho. Something seemed off tho. Like the manual was lying to us or something lol

Why, did it seem like some of the valves were on their way up or something?

When we followed the manual, it looked like some of the lifters weren't in the down position. Some looked like they were sitting up a little bit... But I didn't want to argue with a Haynes manual.

Heh...heh...heh, yeah don't want to argue with the Haynes bible!!! After you adjusted, did you happen to look at those lifters that looked like they were "sitting up a little bit", and see if they dropped any when you rotated the crank?

Okay so I adjusted the rockers again. Some of which were too tight. Some were too loose. Ill never use a Haynes manual for valve adjustment again. Anyways, Camaro69, how much should I put on the preload? A full ratchet turn? 1/2 turn? 3/4 turn? Right now they have 1 full turn. I can back them off a little if needed. What do you think? I want this to be set right before I put it back together! Lol

Some guys like to follow the less is more philosophy, and only go 1/4 turn. A full turn is overkill imo. I'd go 1/2 turn. Or 5/8 if you're the least bit apprehensive!
