This car was the entire reason that the OptiSpark was developed in the first place. None of the other cars that recieved the LS1 engine had the engine stuffed under the cowl and windshield. Plus back when cars were called Muscle Cars you needed a big block to generate the power that the small engines are generating today. It is kinda funny that the 3.5L 5th gen Camaro generates more power than the SS396 of 68, and still gets 30MPG. The 3.8L engine gets 200 HP (which was average v8 HP back in the day) and people want to go back to the old slow gas guzzling crap. I dont get it really. People have a computer-a-phobia or something.

I think a lot of it comes down to the stuff now that the average person can't do at home. Put a cam in an old 396 and drive it. Put a cam in an LS and you're on your way to get a tune.... preferably on a dyno. That, plus the costs of all the extra steps can be a bit much for many, including me.
I did throw a cam in my 3.8 several years ago and admit I never got it tuned. But at the time, finding someone within 100 miles of me who could do that was impossible.

Hi guys, what a topic. Sorry for the COMARO spelling it is more how we say it over here!!!
Im in australia, and there are no smog rules for a purpose built drag car.
Car has run best pass of 10.4 at over 130 mph na, and on 10 inch street tyres, next season will run on 12.5s and spray a 250 shot.
GIDDY UP!!!
I like the look of the carby and engine stuffed right under the cowl, farkin tough. Pretty much the same spot as a carby fed ls1 though.
Thanks guys cheers ben.

I do understand the ease of the upgrades of the old stuff, I have owned enough of it. Now that I better understand how carbs work and how FI works I realized that I was no where near close to having a properly tuned carb engine, but I could fudge that more than you can with a FI engine. I doubt that I will ever own a carb engine vehicle for long. I want a first or second gen Camaro but I plan on putting a LS1 engine into it. But that is me... Yea for those who want the older engine in the 4th gen... good luck changing cap rotor and wires.
