crank won't spin!!!
hey guys, i'm building the motor for my camaro right now, i put the crank in and tourqed down all the main caps, and heres the problem, the crank won't even turn at all, even with a ratchet on the bolt on the end, i'm thinking its egged out just slightly but i'm just not sure, what do you guys think, is there any other problem out there that can be a possibility.

RE: crank won't spin!!!
Check that you put the main caps on the same place where they came from originally and facing in the right direction, they only fit properly in the original spot. Check that you have the proper size bearings and locked in place. You should check the clearance with plasticgage before attempting to turn the crank, and make sure to use plenty of assembly lube.

ya, there is deffinetly more than enough grease in there, as far as the main caps go, i'm about 99.9% sure that they were in the same spot the whole time, cuz i took them off the motor, put them in the same order, and then packed them up in the same position and kept them there for a while, as far as the bearings go, i bought a remanufactured crank with the bearings for the main caps and the connecting rods to match it included in the box, so thats why i'm stuck in this spot, i'm kinda stumped as to what else it could be.

whats a good site to check the clearance and stuff just as a reference to follow up on what i get with the plastiguage, i'm gunna be going up to my friends house later on tonight to see what the stats are with the plastiguage, what are the stats as to what it should show on the plastiguage for every main cap.

If you are sure the parts are correct and the caps are not mixed take it to a machine shop or someone who has the tools to measure properly. My fear would be something is seriously off and if you keep torquing down the caps you may cause further problems.

we actually figured it out, we were at it forever plastiguageing it and it ended up that one of the caps was mixed up with the other one, then we switched them and the crank spined very easy, but no other problems yet, i'll keep ya guys updated, thanks for the help.
