Default Weak brakes

I just got a 94 z28, and ive noticed the brakes are weak, and my ABS Inop light is on, but not my Brake light.

I can slam on them and the car wont lock them up, it almost feels like the pads dont work, or are slick? There is still plenty of meat on the pads, and the rotors are in good shape.

Is there a chance they may be glazed? Or does the ABS light have something to do with it?

By the way, all my taillights work, so its not a false read, And the ABS light is on only about 75% of the time.

Any ideas?

do you have any oil or some kind of substance on the pads ?

why do you think they are weak ?

ABS just controls the wheels not locking up so it wont have anything to do with you having "weak" brakes, however im sure especially if you slam on your brakes your wheels are locking up you just arent noticing it.

I can stomp on the brakes HARD and the car doesnt lock up the tires, it feels like the pads are just sliding along the rotor.

There is no grease or fluid anywhere on the rotors/pads, and there is plenty of fluid in the reservoir

how do you know the tires dont lock up ? you cant tell unless you can see both sides of the tires at the same time.I dont get how the breaks are weak especially if you stomp on them hard, or maybe they are weak cause of the way you drive. If you say the pads are fineyou shouldnt have any issues unless the rotors are damaged.

When the wheels lock up, the friction (between the tires not rotating and the road) creates a sound. The sound varies based on if he is on a real road or a dirt road. I am sure you have heard it Alih. It is similar to the sound of someone chirping the tires on takeoff...

So there is no leakage from the calipars then you may need new rotors as suggested. If you decide to try the new rotors them might as well upgrade to some cross drilled.

I have a friend who is a brake and muffler guy drive it, and hes pretty sure the pads are glazed and I have air in the system, hes going to bleed the brakes for me and hook it up to the abs tool all for free.

If the pads are glazed, He has a brake lathe and well toss on a new set of pads too.

Turns out my front rotors were badly warped and my pads were glazed.

New pads/rotors and it stops like a champ. The ABS light is being caused by a 'bad ground' on the ABS motor?

Any ideas?
