No, the housings are from the same year Camaro as mine, didn't even change the bulbs when I did it.

 

if you did not change bulbs or wire harness then you still have the same setup as before. problem would have to be with how it was installed or a bad wire is grounding or shorting

 

actually they should work without being installed the light housings. does sound like a short someplace.

 

Okay, looking at the bulbs, it appears they've come from random points across the last decade, each and every one. Going to pick up all new ones real quick, I'm amazed this was burning the bulbs at all for this long.

Also learned that the third brake light acts as an emergency signal when the car sees the wrong values in the light sockets. It was acting as a running light, turn signal, flasher, etc. This explains the delay on the flasher I think.

 

i used led's and replaced the old school flashers with electronic ones that dont care what the amp useage is

just picked up some led bulbs, super bright lights is where i got em but im sure the parts stores must have em by now. and the got the flashers from parts store. just take the old ones out an put the new ones in. here are where the flashers are.

 

one of the flashers is el12. superbrightlights has one they sell too. i think one of them is a three prong, dang its been a while.

 

I've read across many forums here that going to LED's and a new flasher causes the cruise control to stop functioning, due to the lower resistance value of the LED's.

Also on that reading, it's been noted that the load balancers (resistors) get ludicrously hot, and can actually cause a fire if they're on or near anything flammable when installing these things. As I'm sure we all know, there's a LOT of plastic on these cars, and the rear end is no different. Berger panel, light housings, bumper clip, etc. On top of that, the carpet on the inside of the boot area is pretty much just pressed up again rear metal portion of the car, making me hesitant to think of even sticking a resistor against the car there.

How did you handle it craby, and does your cruise still work? Also, did you have to switch to heavier gauge wire? The stock stuff is a little bit weenie looking.

 

i do have led in the center light, been so long i cant find where i got it. it was plug in and go so if it has any, it was done before i got it, i didnt add any resistors and cruise still works.
