Exclamation transmision fail

i got a 1994 camaro, as i was exiting the freeway my speedometer got stuck at 45mph when i came to the stop, then my car wouldnt catch 2nd gear, my speedometer is out and my gears get stuck but park, reverse, & neutral still work so i dont think its the tranny, could it possibly be the vss? (vehicle speed sensor) i want to get a scanner but IDK IF I NEED THE OBD1 OR OBD2?

It probably is a problem with the VSS, as the PCM does not seem to know how fast the car is going. The 94 is OBDI, but it needs a real scanner to pull the codes, the little $35 code readers won't work. There is also the possibility that if the car was assembled toward the end of the model year run, it may have an OBDII diagnostic connector, but the PCM is still OBDI. If this is the case, you will still need an OBDI scanner, but the cable will need to have an OBDII plug.
