Speedometer/rearend
Sad story... Changed out the rearend of a 2001 Camaro, V6, 3.8.... The rearend that came out was a 3.23:1..... The rearend that went in was a 3.08:1... Every thing is fine except the speedometer is reading about 7 mph slow, as could be predicted. Called the local Chevy dealer (name withheld to protect the innocent).. The service manager told us that it would cost $300 and take about two hours. He said that they had to "pay $75 to General Motors for the code" and then 2 hours more labor to reset the computer. After a day goes by, the dealer calls and says they "have to open up the rearend to check and see what the gear ratio is"
..... at this point we retrieve the car amid accusations, threats and cussing from both parties
. A different dealer is contacted and we are told that there is no charge for the code and it will take about 45 minutes, to bring it in...
... so we take it in... a day later the dealer says he cannot change the computer and he does not know why he cannot change the computer...
.... My question to the guys out there in this forum is
a: Does the computer control the speedometer and can it be changed?
b: Is there a gear that can be changed on the output of the speed sensor to put out a higher or lower signal to change the input to the computer (if it is computer controlled).. like in the olden days....
Any help will be greatly appreciated... Thanks in advance... Rockfoot

i thought u could reprogram a 01 but it may be like a 93. different colored gears for the sensor are for different geared rear. take the sensor out and see if theres a gear that turns it.
