Spark Plug question..
Hey as i said in my other post I am doing some research for when i get a 99-02 SS
I read somewhere on the internet that I should run Delco/ stock plugs and stay away from splitfire / bosh platinum...is there any truth to this or just hearsay? I read that they would foul out quicker and actually hurt performance..
thanks

RE: Spark Plug question..
I have splitfire's in my vehicle right now and I think they suck. I'm having drivability issues and I think they might be the cause. After only slight variations in gap size I find marked change in how the engine runs....not very well. Also maybe because I gapped using a graduated scale, which isnt very accurate as one ear can have a different gap than the other. Oh well, they are rusting and old (time wise, not miles).
Also I would think since they are splitting the spark, you may get two sparks, but they would be half the strength of a single spark? No proof, just a thought. Going to throw in some Delco and see how she runs.
Pretty gimicky I think since the companies know that 99.9% of consumers have no way to actually verify the claims and usually buy based on good marketing. Anyways, never heard anything great about them, but have heard a handfull of bad.
As for platinum, again who knows, but there seems to be lots more good reviews for platinumthan for splitfire.
My 2 cents

RE: Spark Plug question..
I agree with Lee. Factories select the best plug for the engines they build, and if none are suitable they have the clout to get them especially made. Unless the engine has been heavily modified, stick with the brand and number that the factory originally installed.

RE: Spark Plug question..
I concure with Pete and Lee as well. If the car is stock or close to it, run the stock plug. If you start really modding the car (ie heads, cam swap, forced indution of any kind) then you will want to run a different plug (I run NGK TR55 in N/A cars and TR6's in F/I cars, depending on mods).

add one more vote for stock.....there is usually hours of engineering to determine best spark plug for the stock motor. modified is definitely a different story though.....I like the platinum
