Default Skip shift eliminator installed?

I just got an 02 z28 m6. I get the skip shift illuminating occaisionally but it does not force me into 4th. I see the light once in a while right before I shift but I drop into 2nd just fine. Does this mean I have a skip shift eliminator?
I only tried once dropping into 4th when it lit and I seemed really bogged down.

I'm guessing I have the eliminator. Does it bypass safety features though. For example, can I accidentially shift into reverse now because of the mod?

I'm not an expert, but I would say no. That would be very, very dangerous.

No - a skip-shift eliminator (or a generic inline resistor, really) will cause the computer to think that the 1st -> 4th solenoid is still active, hence the light. But the actual solenoid doesn't get power, so you can shift to 2nd.

But that's the only thing that's affected. The reverse lockout solenoid's on a different circuit.

Thanks for the info.

My first highway trip with the car I tried to go into 5th and heard nothing but grinding yet the clutch was all the way in. Did the reverse solenoid do it's job or is it defective?

Be sure it was 5th. Sometimes the reverse lockout goes bad, and you'll actually move into reverse rather than 5th. My reverse lockout acts up, and I sometimes slot into reverse at around 40-45 mph. Just take your time shifting into 5th (actually try to feel the gates) or go to 6th then forward to 5th to see if you're popping into reverse.
