I had the same problem. I couldnt find any sizes for a new shifter ****. So I went out and bought a shifter ****.(It obviously didnt fit). So I took a hex bolt and in this case it was a 7/16 bolt and then I found a bolt that fit pretty well to my shifter. In this case a 5/8 bolt. So I screwed the 7/16 bolt to my new shifter ****, then welded it to the 5/8 bolt. I can now screw on my new shifter **** with no problems.

yes i do belive that big leather ball is stock,i drive a stock 94z28 in1995 on a test drive @ a dealer.that was one of the things i didn't like about the Z i drove mustangs (hurl) before and the shift handle felt better+the z i drove had real low oil pressure at idle and that scared me into not buying the car,ya i found out later thats the way they are
the hurst ss shift handle is nicer, wonder it should fit right on?

Yeah, that ball is stock, way to big. Any stock shifter of a camaro/firebird are interchangable. Even corvettes I believe.
