Default She Won't Start

A few days ago I go out to drive into town and try to start my car. It was a little hesitant to start but I didn't really think anything of it becuase the starter was already pretty worn out from a previous problem. I get to my destination and there is a burnt smell right before I park it. It wasn't overheating or anything. So I go to leave a couple hours later and I barely get it started. I sat there for a good 15 minutes trying to get it to start. Then the next day it wouldn't start at all. Wouldn't turn over or anything. Changed the starter and it finally started turning but now once you turn the key, you can here it try to turn over but it's like it catches on something and makes a loud, horrible noise. My dad thinks maybe it's the flyweel? Any advice?

yeah it sounds like its the flywheel, i had the same problem with mine, try push starting er to get the flywheel in a different spot and start it, or jack it up and look at the teeth to see how worn they are

It's a 1994 Z28 with an automatic tranny.

pull the converter cover off and have a look at the gears on the flexplate and the starter. is there damage to either and if so were and what kind. if the flexplates gears are stripped the tranny will have to come out in order to change it. were there any spacers between the starter and the block? take a picture or three and let us see. a audio of the sound would be very helpfull but would not want to have u screw it up worse than it is making the recording.
