Security Problem, yes i had read the info
My name is David i am from Coahuila Mexico. And iam new at this forum.
Ok here is the problem i buy a 96 camaro v8 a couple of weeks ago, and i had some trouble to start the engine i need to try like 2 o 3 times to start, so i noticed the security light stays on but the car worked fine soo i start looking for answers on google, and find this webpage and then i read all the information of the security light, soo i decided to do the vatas bypass http://shbox.com/1/vats_bypass.jpg folowing all the steps mentioned like checking the key, and the resistence of the cylinder and i noticed that no reading came from the cylinder so i thought the cylinder was the problem. so i buy a resistence according to my key and did the vatas baypass but ooohhh big sorprise
my car dosn't start so i take out the resistence and i try again and the same problem it start like 5 seconds and then it dies.
I read that i can relearn the key can this solve my problem?? and how can i exactly do this..... only i put the key on the on position for 10 minutes??
What can i do?????
i hope you can help me and understand me, and sorry if i had some grammar mistakes
i will be waiting for your answer

I really don't know what you did, but the thing is to buy a resistor the same value as the one on the key (measure resistance on key with an Ohm meter), disconnect the wires going from the ignition switch to the security module and strap the new resistor across the two wires you just disconnected from the ignition switch. If the resistor on the key is bad, then the measurement will also be bad. In this case, look up the resistor chart (somewhere in this forum), buy all 15 different valu resistors and starp them acroos the leads until you find one that works.
Being that you were able to drive the car with the security lamp on, indicates that the VATS became defective while you were driving the car, in this case the PCM is going to disregard the VATS data and allow the car to be started with the VATS disabled. However; if power to the PCM is removed, the PCM will forget all previous data and now think that the VATS is being broken in, and disable the engine.
