Default Replacing crankshaft and bearings

My car has to have a new crankshaft kit put in it. Apparently when the oil pump went it caused damage to the bearings.

How long does it normally take to do the job?

well, you're looking at pulling the motor out, putting it on a stand, pulling the oil pan off, bearing caps off, pulling the old crank and bearings out, if you spun/damaged a bearing, you probably need a new crank as well.

its gonna take some time for sure

They are putting in a crankshaft kit which includes not only the bearings but the new crackshaft as well.

Am I looking at like a 4-5 day repair?

alot will depend on the abilities of the person doing the work, what tools/ewuipment are available, how much help and how many hours a day you can put in. i take my time so it took weeks to to mine. the right person working long hours with the right equipment, shop and tools could do it in a couple of days. you add more experianced bodies and the time is less. sooo,,, lol, i guess somewhere between three days and two weeks

You are really going to have to ask the shop. Unless it is a larger shop most shops cannot go all day without a man so on big jobs like this the mechanic may only get to work on it for 4-6 hours a day so the better part of a week is normal.

Just a word of warning, when oil pumps fail and crank damage occurs the bearing material gets all through the engine. The motor really needs completely diassembled and cleaned. You could have damage to the cam bearing and most defiantly have babbitt flakes in the lifters. I have installed a lot of crank kit for GM under warranty but for rod knocking do to a stretched rod. If I found a failed oil pump the short block was replaced and with new lifters. Remember that is on low miles motor. If your motor has higher miles you really should look at a replacement motor. You much better off pay 5k for a replacement then $3500 for a repair and the rest of the motor untouched or even damaged from the oil pump failure. That is another thing. Cylinder scoring is very common with oil pump failures.
