As far as how much trouble it'd be to do the swap, I wouldn't know. As for what years, anything 93-96 will work. If it's a 96 though, make sure it's a the 3.4 and not the 3.8. 96 California Camaros came with the 3.8 to meet emissions and the 3.8 is a 90 degree angled V instead of a 60 degree like the 3.4s.

95 was the 3.8 cali cars. All 96s are 3.8s or lt1

You're right. Not sure why I was thinking 96 was starting for 3.8s.

you will need the wiring harness under hood and maybe under dash. you will also need the computer for a 5 speed. it is a major job to switch the trans type or motor type in the 4th gen camaro.

Plus trying to find a tranny to fit the 3.4 isn't very easy. There's a few differences in the tranny between 3.4 and 3.8 that makes them engine speciffic.

You'll be fine as there's alot of 3.8 trannys out there. Ita just the 3.4 that is impossible to find a tranny for.

wow, sounds like you got a deal. How much did you give for the car? If you don't mind me asking.
