Default Remote question....

I have to press the unlock button on the remote of my '97 Z28 and hold it down for at least 10 seconds before the door will unlock. I just replaced the battery so that's not the problem. It's 17 years old so is it just because it's wearing out or do all old remotes do that?

No, you should not have to press for more than a second. This might help: Pry the key fob apart and clean the copper contacts under the buttons. Just use a simple piece of clean cloth, with a very small amount of alcohol if necessary. You don't have to get it real shiny, just remove the black deposits. Try not to move around much or generate any static electricity while you have it open. Worked for me.

^ what he said

Also make sure the rubber pads are clean as well. And if all else fails Dorman is making replacement cases for the fobs that come with new rubber pads.
