if it werent for the damage of everything else I am sure the price would have been cheaper. I kept driving the car home because I was 30=40 away from home and I had no one to come get me and I didnt want to tow it.

what else was damaged?
the rear is enclosed in about 3/8 inch of solid iron. Even catastrophic failure only hurts its own components.

I believe the carrier side gears, pinion gear, bearings and something else. I thought about just getting a used rear end but then I didnt want to take a chance on it breaking on me again. I looked at the strange rear end out of my price range and looked at the moser. Both were out of my range and even used someone wanted 2200 which is damn near the cost of a new one. I found used rear ends but then they were all missing something.Like no brakes or no posi or came out a high mileage car. And I wouldnt know how well they took care of the rear end. Plus I have finals for the next two weeks so I really need to get back and forth to class and study groups. I called other shops and they were quoting the same prices or higher with no gears. The first shop I had it at told me 2600 dollars and said 450 for labor. They kept telling me my tranny was bad but I already knew that wasnt it. They swore it was the tranny so I told them I would be getting it towed away by another shop. Another shop told me 1200 without gears and if they did put gears it would be 1600 with no warranty because gears are for racing. The shop I took it too is a well known shop for race guys and they do good work. They are local shop they said they would give me a one year warranty with unlimited miles. I know a guy who took his mustang to them and he and his son bought a tranny from them. It was out of warranty and they still gave him warranty just made him pay the labor. I just might have paid a little to much i dont know for sure, other shops prices were off the wall or no warranty. Finding a good shop in detroit is hard because most guys here like working on the old schools. I pull my camaro up and they automatically think I race and rape her so they almost want to never offer a warranty or want to rape me.

be careful with that 10 bolt. there is a reason chevy went with that 3.42 gear ratio. the torque put on this rear end, especially with a six speed is approaching limits with the 3.42's.

3.42 is actually large for most rear ends......... the mustang, forexample, has 2.73s and 3.23s stock. its not like they would have otherwise went with a higher ratio....

so you guys dont think i should have done 4.10. Its not like i put done mad power and I dont plan to. I know a few people that have 4.10's and daily drive with out an issue. I only have i/h/e and a few other things. I plan on throwing a cam in later down the road but that wont get me any where near 400 horses which I heard is the limit for these rear ends
