So they go from being able to read codes yourself with a paper clip to a system that requires a $200 scanner for a year, then go to OBDII which you can get scanners for for under $50....makes no sense. and Craby, a 3140 what? I'm assuming this car is not OBD1.5 as it does not have the 16 pin connector. I guess it is the plain ol OBD cars that you can do the paper clip trick with (pre-94).

3140 innova is what i have. now im not sure if they will work as i have not seen it hooked to a 94 with my own eyes. adld cable and a laptop with software is probly the least expensive way to go with most info. have a look at this, 80 bucks. ALDU1 and CABL1

All I want to do for now is retreive codes for the engine and the ABS so I can figure out how to fox the ABS INOP light.

the adld cable with software will let you see the codes on a computer. check your center brake light, if its out the abs light will come on. also check wire harnesses for the front wheel sensors. both common failure points.

my actron scanner shows no codes, but my abs light is on

so, i guess that means that you may run into the same problem if you were to try to get a scanner to tell you what the problem is with yours

I am going to pull the front sensors off this weekend. Maybe they are just all gunked up. Little buggers are expensive! Not sure if there are many problems with the rear sensor in the differential, but I'll save that one for last.

thats because the abs system is under a different program than pcm/ecm, takes a special scanner.
