Default Missing hose after pump change..

After mis-diagnosing my power steering pump failing (fluid dripping from pulley and loss of power steering, but turned out to be water pump dripping on to the serp belt and causing the steerpump to slip and drip) and fitting a nice new one, Doh!..

I then fitted a nice shiny new water pump which went back together nice and quickly until I dropped one of the bleed screws back down in to the tiniest of gaps between the new pump and block.[:@].

Having finally fished that out and getting it all ready I noticed my little blue vacuum elbow pipe was not there despite being there when I took it apart. I stripped the intake back down and checked every inch of the engine and the vacuum connector thingy near the coil pack etc. for over an hour but for the life of me I couldn't find it. So I gave up, plugged the little hole in the intake elbow with a self tap screw and fired her up, she runs perfectly and seems none the worse for wear without this hose but I'm curious as to where it runs to/from or what it does? so I can hopefully find it and put it back.

here's a piccy I borrowed from the Tinterweb to show the one I mean...

Thx..

the only thing that goes into the elbow is the air temp plug on the left side.
