loud klunking from under center console?
Hey all,
Today Cammy started making a loud clunking sound coming I think from under the center console. I noticed it when i was parked and then drove half a mile or so and the sound pretty much completely went away.
Now would be a good time to mention I got Cammy stuck in the sand out at work the other day - I was trying to get outta the sawmill when her rear wheels started sinking and basically her rear end 'sank' into the sand up to her rear exhaust pipes - it was really sad like a horse drowning in quicksand looking at her
Anyways I dug her out and chopped up some plywood to slide under the wheels to get traction and got her free but there was one failed attempt where she got traction and started climbing out of the sand pit but there was too much sand in her undercarriage and she slid sideways like she was 'hung up' on something from underneathe.
So I think something got pulled loose under her(hopefully not bent) do you guys have any ideas what you think mighta gotten messed up??
Thanks.
BTW she runs/drives fine no codes or anything same power she always has

theres a brace of some sort that goes from the trans to the rear end either the bolt broke, came loose or stripped out i had the same problem (im talking about the bolt that holds it to the trans) not a hard fix just a btch to get at i guarantee thats your problem mine stripped out after i replaced the clutch had to drill and tap(by hand with a pair of channel locks no room for a drill) i used a grade 8 bolt locktight and a locking washer that bolt aint going anywhere

B.C. is talking about the torque arm that's bolted to the rearend and connects to a bracket mounted to the tail of the trans. The load from sinking the car probably broke either the connection free at the front of the arm, or separated the trans mount. You'll need to get under there and do some pushing or jacking to see what's able to move. If the arm mount is broken free in front, that should be easy to spot. But you might need to jack up the back of the trans slightly to see if the tranny mount is torn.
the only reason i didnt say tranny mount is beacuse i also have a torn trans mount (hopefully this weekend ill be able to afford that) and when the trans hits its more of a soft thud the torque arm smashes into the floor and makes a VERY loud klunk sound
jack up the rear of the car pull the parking brake up and rock one of the rear wheels back and forth and look at the trans youll see it
ohh and be careful with that bolt the trans is aluminum and its verrrrrrrrrrrry easy to destroy the threads

That's because you have a 6'r.
When the trans mount tore on my old 96 Z28, it sounded like someone was whacking the tunnel with a sledgehammer if i gassed it too hard.
