Default A lil prob for a Lil car

alright i can't figure out where my leak is. i believe that it is power steering fluid because i have to fill it nearly once a week. wheneer i park it leave a trail of it and when i do pull into a parking spot sometimes, it just pours out. I'll even stop at a light and I can see smoke rising out of my car. I don't know if its the resvoir or a hose. any suggestion?

Smoke or steam? Have you just checked where the leak may be from when the car is idleing? Have you got under the car to see where the leak may be from. If it's the power steering then your hoses may need to be replaced. Oh and by the way it's easier to diagnose a problem with a car when you know what kind of car we are talking about here.

I pretty much figured that part out. Reason I asked is because different years had their own set of problems and if it's a V8 or V6. That too would change some things. Look for the power steering pump. Have someone turn the wheel with the car running. You should be able to detect where the leak is coming from because of the presure inside the hose. It will shootthe fluid out of where ever the leak is. Pretty simple just be careful because the car will need to be running.

The hoses are not expensive at all nor is the pump. When the pump goes bad you'll usually hear a whine everytime you turn the wheel. If you're not hearing that then I'd look to the hoses. Wash that area with some degreaser so it will be easier to detect where the leak may be. Since you have access to the internet then you can go to Autozone.com or CSK and see how much the parts are online before you go to purchase them. Just gives you a heads up of how much you're going to spend. Good luck!
