Well guess what, I got to work today, parked and was about to shut the car off when it died all by itself. Then I saw the smoke coming out from under the dash. The switch went up in smoke, literally. So it's off to the shop that did it a year and a half ago because it's under warranty. But what a pain in the butt.

Well I know what's on your minds, he screwed something up while he was in there. Well I thought that to, but I didn't. The shop that replaced the last switch just got done with it and I picked it up. Turns out there harness that goes through the firewall by the steering column had been rubbed though from the bolt holding the top steering knuckle. It has rubbed though the sheathing of two wires, one that when the key was on and the bolt hit it fried my switch. Not sure what the other one was but I'm betting it was a ABS wirer and is probably the thing I've been chasing for about 3 years. But it's all fixed now. But what a mess this has all been.

It was the first thing that came to my mind. Turns out it was just a coincidence.

Glad to hear that everything worked out good. Something like that has been known to cause Car-b-ques.

Yeah, I guess after they replaced the switch they test drove it and made a turn and it started sparking up and down the column, fried the new switch. But that's how they found the problem and now it's all good.
