ya the manual recomends 5w30 and you didnt say how many miles is on it over 100K i would run 10w30 Valvoline Maxlifesyn i used to work at a lube shop if its a LS1 it will take 5.5q you have to let it sit for 15mins when you check the oil level & a V6 should take 4 - 4.5q

yes it is just over 100k
are you sure I should run 10w30 instead of 5w30? that isnt gonna hurt anything? as i know people who have ran the wrong weight of oil in other cars and had problems...
thanks

well if its not leaking you could run 5w30 but i would at lease run Valvoline Maxlife or run Maxlife synthetic when i worked at Valvoline instant oil change that stuff stop leaks and stop oil burning now i dont know if your car does any of that but its better to use it before it happens im goin to start to use it at 75,000 i have a while before that

Some cars are very particular about what oil you put in them. I've seen cars that burn oil from one brand, but not the other even if they're the same weight. My Dad's LS1 vette would burn a bunch of Mobile 1 10W-30 synthetic, but wouldn't burn nearly as much if he put in 5W-30. Just some food for thought there.

i talked to someone in my family and they suggested that i stick with 5w30 if that is what is called for and only switch if there are some problems.
I will try using the valvoline maxlife synthetic or whatever.
thanks!
